BAER DESIGN GROUP WINS BEST OF SHOW
Small Firm Beats Out Hundreds of Entries for Top Prize

Chicago, IL - From more than 400 entries – that included some from the largest advertising agencies in Chicago – judges for the Business Marketing Association's Tower Awards Competition chose a brochure designed by the six-year-old Baer Design Group of Chicago for its coveted "Best of Show" award.

The Baer Design Group, a boutique firm with a focus on identity campaigns and packaging, won the competition's highest award for the print brochure it produced for Roark Johnson Photography of Chicago. The design is a poetic assemblage of Roark's portraits connected together by defining "I" statements. A portrait of a winsome little girl is accompanied by the statement "I am four and three quarters." A shot of three elderly women under hair dryers is accompanied by the phrase "I am having a day of beauty." Next to a photograph of a physician in a hospital room is the statement "I am not God."

"This piece was the perfect way to package my work professionally to potential clients," Johnson says. "It really speaks to the essence of what Roark Johnson Photography is all about."

The Baer Design Group won a total of three awards, including a gold and bronze award, at this year's awards banquet, on Tuesday, May 15. Advertising executives from several Midwestern states judge the annual design competition, reviewing hundreds of entries in categories including total communications program, print advertisements, broadcast, direct mail, promotional literature, exhibit and displays, public relations, electronic media presentations, and internet/intranet marketing. The judges select the most outstanding entry in all categories for the "Best of Show" award.
